Heartland Conference Continuing Education Program

2 Timothy 2:15 – “Study to show yourself approved unto God, a
workman that does not need to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.”

The ministers and delegates at the 2005 General Conference in Oklahoma City recognized the vital importance of continuing education for our ministers. Therefore, a resolution was adopted giving each conference board in the IPHC the assignment to develop and implement a continuing education program in the conference.

“All licensed and ordained ministers must participate annually in a continuing education program provided or approved by the general conference or quadrennialconference (2 Timothy 2:15). Any minister failing to meet this requirement will forfeit his credentials. This excludes retired ministers not in active ministry.”

IPHC Manual, 2005- 2009, P. 132

From the Office of the General Superintendent:

All ministerial applications are to include language regarding this program that all new ministers will initial, indicating their ongoing agreement to participate in continuing education program.

This program is designed for all ministers who carry Heartland Conference credentials, except for inactive retired ministers. Any Heartland minister who is a full time student in an IPHC college will automatically satisfy the Continuing Education Unit (CEU) requirements for the period of time involved in full-time studies.

The following constitutes a CEU:

One (1) CEU for each hour of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible and qualified instructors recognized by the conference.

One (1) CEU will be awarded for each 100 pages read from the approved reading list to be published by the conference. Up to 12 CEUs can be earned from approved readings.

Amount and Issuance of CEUs:

a. Each licensed and ordained minister shall earn a minimum of 24 CEUs per year.

b. Sponsoring agencies will grant the designated CEU credits per event. These agencies include IPHC Ministries Resource Development Center sponsored events and IPHC college sponsored events.

c. 75% - 18 CEUs of the annual 24 CEUs must be completed at IPHC sponsored events or from authorized readings. 25% may be earned outside of IPHC sponsored events provided the agency or event is approved by the conference superintendent or his appointee.

d. It is the responsibility of the conference office to track and maintain the CEU credits on all ministers. These records must be reviewed annually by the conference office. An annual summary of the minister’s CEUs should be mailed to the minister. Any discrepancies between the conference office and minister’s records should be reconciled as quickly as possible.

The Heartland Conference Program
24 CEUs Annually

Based on the in-service training program already available in the Heartland Conference, it will be fairly easy for our ministers to earn 24 CEUs per year by simply participating in Heartland Conference events.

1. Summer Summit daytime training sessions – 3 days at 4 hours = 12 CEUs

2. Iron Sharpens Iron 3 times per year 3 hours each session = 9 CEUs

3. February 29 – March 1 Church Planting Seminar with Jim Eby 5 hours = 5 CEUs

4. School of Ministry church planting seminar April 18-19 = 8 CEUs

5. Fall Camp-meeting daytime sessions 2 mornings with 2 hours = 4 CEUs

6. The annual CEM day of training = 6 CEUs

7. Mentoring sessions = 8 CEUs

8. Each new class being offered in the School of Ministry = 18 CEUs

9. Various reading suggestions sent by our Bishop regularly would offer additional CEUs = Up to 12.

10. Annual Conference = 3 CEUs

TOTAL POSSIBLE = 85 CEUs

YEAR-END EVALUATION

1. At the end of each year, prior to recertification, the CEUs are reported to the conference bishop.

2. Any minister not having accumulated 24 CEUs has a personal visit with the Bishop. The first step to encourage participation is immediate enrollment in the Heartland Conference School of Ministry or a prescribed course of reading with follow up reporting to the bishop.

3. If failure to earn CEUs continues, the minister will be asked to meet with the conference board and a new individualized program agreed to at that time.

4. After 2 years of failure to earn adequate CEUs, suspension of license will follow.

5. If persistent refusal to participate continues into the third year, removal of license by the conference board will follow.
