Bishop Frank G. Tunstall
Superintendent
Dr. Frank G. Tunstall served twenty-three years as the pioneer pastor of Northwest Christian Center in Oklahoma City, leading the church through five building programs. He has also worked as editor in chief of publications and editor of the Advocate, the denominational official journal (now called Experience.) He taught Bible/Theology at Southwestern Christian University for many years, and served six years as Southwestern’s president.
In recent years he served eight years on the IPHC World Missions Board and 12 years as missions director of the Heartland Conference. He wrote the book, A History of World Missions, the First 100 Years, published in 2005. He also was elected to the General Executive Board of the denomination at the General Conference in Oklahoma City in 2005 and currently serves as a member of the IPHC board of control, the Council of Bishops. He is also a member of the Board of Regents of Southwestern Christian University and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of regents. His newest book, Our Awesome Lord, is a Christology written to show what Jesus achieved and how He did it. Our Awesome Lord was released in September 2008 by Creation House. The Spanish version became available in May 2009.
Dr. Tunstall considers his chief credential for ministry is the altar he built in the woods while growing up as a teenager. That altar was his regular place of prayer during those years. “I know I met God as a boy in the woods,” he says. His lifelong love for the Word of God was also kindled in those years.
He holds earned degrees from Emmanuel College (A.A.), Methodist College (B. A.), Oral Roberts University (M. Div.), the University of Tulsa (M.A.), and Phillips University (D. Min.). He has also done study at the University of Oklahoma.
Dr. Tunstall and his wife, Lu, have three children, Dena, Franklin, Jr. and Derek (deceased), and five grandchildren. They have been married 45 years.
